Come fly high with woodland birds and mythical birds, rhyming birds and ancient birds. From the mighty Anzu bird of Sumerian myth to chattering Yorkshire sparrows, this show celebrates birds in stories, poems, interactivity and song. With storyteller Catherine Heinemeyer and Carnegie-Medal nominated poet and performer Anneliese Emmans Dean. A soaring – and giggly – treat for adults and children alike.
Catherine Heinemeyer – aka Nettlefoot Kate – is a storyteller, teacher, outdoor educator and researcher. She tells stories to young and old in theatres, forests, schools, pubs, mental health settings, museums, festivals, windmills, university common rooms, and raucous parties, and is particularly interested in storytelling as a way of bringing communities together.
Anneliese Emmans Dean is a poet, performer and life-long birdwatcher who gets audiences giggling up and down the land from the Edinburgh Fringe to the Hay Festival. She often performs on BBC radio and in primary schools. Her book ‘Buzzing! Discover the poetry in garden minibeasts’ has been described as ‘a rhyming romp’ and was shortlisted for the Royal Society Young People’s Book Prize.
Flying High is part of the Castle Gardens event.
