Ryedale Primary Schools were invited to join our day celebrating the joy of performance poetry in Malton. In the morning, the children enjoyed an interactive poetry workshop with Wes Magee, and in the afternoon, they experienced or took part in the Grand Final of the P-Factor 2018.
Congratulations to the winners of the 2018 competition, Langton Primary School
…and to runnners-up from Terrington Primary School.
Described by John Hegley in October 2015 as “The best school’s poetry day [he] had ever been to”, Ryedale Book Festival is proud to be organising this popular event for the 6th year. The poetry day creates an enthusiasm for performance poetry amongst local children and brings our rural community closer together.
We were very excited to have Wes Magee as our special guest this year. Previous special guests have included Mandy Coe (2017), Joseph Coelho (2016), John Hegley (2015), Craig Bradley (2014) and Stuart Reid (2013) and Andy Seed (2012).
Wes Magee is an award-winning author for children and for adults. He has published 6 poetry collections for adults, and more than 100 books for young readers – fiction, poetry, plays, picture books, and anthologies.
Each of the P-Factor Finalists received one of Wes’s books, signed by all the judges.
The P-Factor is an inter-school “X-Factor” style slam poetry competition, conceived for Ryedale Book Festival by Andy Seed and now chaired by York poet Anneliese Emmans Dean.
