Described by John Hegley in October 2015 as “The best school’s poetry day [he] had ever been to”, Ryedale Book Festival is proud to be organising this popular event for the 6th year. The poetry day creates an enthusiasm for performance poetry amongst local children and brings our rural community closer together.
We are very excited to announce that Mandy Coe will be our special guest this year. Previous special guests have included Joseph Coelho (2016), John Hegley (2015), Craig Bradley (2014) and Stuart Reid (2013) and Andy Seed (2012).
Mandy is a passionate advocate for literacy believing that “poetry for children brings literature to life and into our lives in a way no other genre can”. Her poems have appeared on BBC television and radio including CBeebies, BBC Schools Radio, Woman’s Hour and Poetry Please. A copy of her award-winning children’s collection “If You Could See Laughter” will be given to each of the P-Factor Finalists.
The P-Factor is an inter-school “X-Factor” style slam poetry competition, conceived for Ryedale Book Festival by Blue Peter non-fiction award winner Andy Seed.
In September information will be sent to each school about the P-Factor or you may wish to email our out-reach coordinator if you have any questions about the day. email@example.com
