Women and Social Media: Sexting, sharing and cyberbullies

When your compromising photo goes viral or a seemingly harmless flirtation attracts the trolls, what can you do? Teacher and married mum-of-two Lisa Blaize and high schooler Izzy O’Neill are two characters who both experience the dark side of social media.

Their creators Paula Byrne (Look to your Wife) and Laura Steven (The Exact Opposite of Okay) will be talking to Sarah Banks about the challenges of managing an on-line profile and what to do if it spins out of control. Girls – this one’s for you!

Byrne conjures such a vivid portrait of her enchanting heroine that one almost feels deprived never having met her” Daily Mail

Paula Byrne is the author of bestselling biographies Perdita, Mad World and The Real Jane Austen. Look to Your Wife is Paula’s debut novel based on her experiences of being stalked on-line.

“Funny, unapologetic and shameless in the best possible way, this is a YA heroine (and a book) that you’ve never seen before.” Louise O’Neill

Laura is an author, journalist and screenwriter from the northern most town in England currently studying for her MFA in creative writing whilst working for Mslexia. In 2016 she was shortlisted for the Northern Writers’ Award.

The box office for this event is now closed. Tickets will be available on the door.
